The first podcast in a series Dr Victoria Cook from the Chartered College of Teaching interviews Dr Kelly Woodford-Richens, former scientist, author of ‘Essential Guides for Early Career Teachers: Using Cognitive Science in the Classroom’, teacher and now teacher trainer, and Louise Quaid, Executive Principal of Littlegreen Academy a specialist school for pupils with SEMH needs and Redwood Park Academy a specialist school for pupils with complex learning difficulties.
Kelly and Louise will discuss their inspiration for the current research, describing how they developed the initial idea into a research plan and outlining how the research has been incorporated into their school improvement plan. Giving an insight into the realities of conducting research in schools, Kelly and Louise will discuss the questions and uncertainties they have faced so far and how they have overcome these, offering guidance and support to those seeking to conduct research into their own practice.

Hydeh Fayaz is the Acting Deputy Head, Curriculum, Geography and Oracy Lead at St Matthews Research School in Birmingham. She is the Deputy Director for the Research School ELE for the research school and has worked with Oracy Cambridge to create an 18 month modular programme entitled “Oracy in Action: Developing Purposeful Talk in EYFS and KS1”

The DfE are seeking your views on the draft non-statutory guidance for schools and colleges about children questioning their gender. In todays episode CCT Fellow Gerlinde Achenbach walks us through the guidance and offers some useful advice on inclusive practices.

Gerlinde Achenbach is a former primary headteacher with a particular expertise in early years and inclusion. A Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching, she has a teaching career spanning more than 30 years in schools in SE London. She is currently working as a leadership coach and education consultant in equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. In 2023 Gerlinde set up her consultancy, GAEd, and now works with schools and school leaders across the country, sharing her leadership experience and expertise in school improvement, changing school culture, developing leaders at all levels and LGBTQ+ inclusion. Gerlinde is based in Suffolk and London.

Jonny is  passionate about using research to inform practice with a particular interest in using metacognition strategies to improve educational outcomes.
